Your comma, live on your phone.

CommaView shows your comma’s road camera and driving overlays on your Android phone, tablet or head unit, over your own network. Record drives, see your week and find your car.

The CommaView home screen: a Toyota RAV4 with its comma connected, the car on its stage, the runtime version and device address, the Open Live View button, this week’s driving, and the car’s live location.

Every screen in your car

Your phone, a tablet, or the car’s own screen.

CommaView runs on Android: a phone, a tablet on the dash, or an Android head unit. On a wider screen it lays out as a dashboard, with the car beside Live View and your week at a glance.

CommaView Live View on an in-dash Android head unit with CommaView’s overlay over a sunny freeway: the path drawn in teal, the SUV ahead marked 85 ft and 0.9 s away, Engaged, and a cluster with MAX 70, 64 mph and a 65 speed limit sign, with the Record, picture-in-picture, overlay, Details and Exit controls on the driver's side.

Features

Built around your drive.

Everything the app shows comes from your comma, over your own network.

Live View

The road camera, live on your screen.

See what your comma sees in real time, with its driving overlays on top: the comma four’s screen, the comma 3X’s, or CommaView’s own, with your speed, MAX, the speed limit, the car ahead and lane changes in one cluster. Record a drive with one tap, or keep Live View in picture-in-picture.

  • The comma four’s, the comma 3X’s or CommaView’s own overlay
  • Details at a glance: video, network, runtime
CommaView Live View on a tablet with CommaView’s overlay over a sunny freeway: the path drawn in teal, the SUV ahead marked 107 ft and 1.1 s away, Engaged, and a cluster with MAX 70, 65 mph on a gauge and a 65 speed limit sign; beside it the controls rail and a details pane showing Live, Connected, 20 fps video, the runtime and sunnypilot.

Recordings

Every drive you save, on your phone.

Save drives from the comma to your phone, play them back with the overlays, and export or share a clip. Recordings stay on your phone until you delete them.

  • Grouped by day, with the size of each
  • Replays made on the phone, not in the cloud
The Recordings screen: drives grouped under Today, each with a thumbnail, its time, length and size.

Driving insights

Your week at a glance.

Distance, drive time and drives for the week, day by day, and all time. Recorded by your comma, straight from its own logs.

  • Miles or kilometres
  • Clear about the source: your comma, not the odometer
The Driving insights screen: this week’s distance, drive time and drives, a bar for each day, and all-time totals.

Vehicle location

Where the car is, and where you parked.

The car’s live position while you drive, and its parked spot afterwards, on OpenStreetMap. It’s off until you turn it on, and the position goes straight from your comma to your phone.

  • From the comma’s own GPS
  • Turning it off deletes the positions the comma kept
The Vehicle location screen: a live dot on a street map, with the last update, source, accuracy and coordinates.

How it works

Up and running in three steps.

  1. Join the beta

Sign up with your email. We’re letting people in in small groups and email your invite when it’s your turn.

  2. Get the app and add your comma

Sign in at my.commaview.com with your invite’s email and download the app. Then guided setup connects to your comma, installs the small CommaView runtime and checks it. It takes a few minutes.

  3. Open Live View

On the same Wi-Fi or the comma’s hotspot, video streams straight from the comma to your phone, tablet or head unit.

Local first

Your drives stay yours.

CommaView is a local Android app and a small runtime on your comma. It isn’t a cloud dashboard.

  • Video, drives and places go from your comma to your phone, and nowhere else unless you send them.
  • Recordings stay on your phone until you delete them.
  • Your CommaView account is for your invite, downloading the app and its updates, and sending us feedback.

Use it safely

Built to inform, never to distract.

CommaView is unofficial software, not affiliated with comma.ai. It is not a safety system: never let it distract you from driving, and follow the law where you drive.

How releases work

Questions

Good to know.

What do I need?

An Android phone or tablet (Android 8 or later) and a comma 3X or comma four running openpilot, sunnypilot, StarPilot, xnor or AdventurePilot. The phone and the comma need to be on the same network, or the phone on the comma’s hotspot.

Which comma devices does CommaView work with?

The comma 3X and the comma four. Both run the same openpilot releases and forks, so CommaView works the same on either. The app runs on an Android phone, tablet or head unit.

Which openpilot forks does CommaView work with?

openpilot, sunnypilot, StarPilot, xnor-tech’s openpilot (its xnor and rx builds) and AdventurePilot. Live View draws each fork’s own screen, with what that fork adds to it. What each fork shows.

Why isn’t the comma 3 supported?

comma moved the comma 3 to its own long-term release, openpilot 0.10, which has been frozen since September 2025, and sunnypilot has deprecated it. On that release the comma 3 draws its screen with openpilot’s older UI, which CommaView’s runtime can’t hook into to show the driving overlay. comma’s own tools still work on a comma 3; if that changes upstream, we’ll take another look.

Does it work on a tablet or my car’s screen?

Yes, on any Android tablet or Android head unit. On a wider screen CommaView lays out as a dashboard, and the Live View controls sit on the driver’s side.

Does it need the internet?

Live View and recordings don’t: they go straight from the comma to your phone. Signing in, app and runtime updates, your car’s picture and the map in Vehicle location do.

What does it install on my comma?

A small runtime, commaviewd, that serves the camera and driving data to the app on your network, and a small hook in openpilot’s on-screen UI so CommaView can draw the same path and lanes. Guided setup installs both and checks them.

Is CommaView made by comma.ai?

No. CommaView is an independent project, not affiliated with or endorsed by comma.ai.

How do updates work?

The app checks your account for a new release and offers it in the app. Your comma’s runtime updates from Device settings. If the car is being driven, Safe Update queues the update and the comma installs it once the car is in Park with openpilot disengaged. Keep the car on; it doesn’t need to be switched off.
